Woman doing Self Defense

Hello! My name is Melinda Sleppy. I am the founder and CEO of Get Fit By Melinda.  I have been training in martial arts and kickboxing since 2005. I am a 2nd degree black belt certified Instructor in Kenpo Karate. Through my years of running martial arts schools, I have had the opportunity to train and rank in many different styles. Kenpo Karate, Taekwondo, Shotokan, Jujitsu, Krav Maga, and Muay Thai. My teaching style brings a strenuous yet refreshing mix of a cardio kickboxing workout infused with everyday practical self-defense techniques. Over my 15 years of training in martial arts and other self-defense styles, I had the honor of being the Head Instructor at a Martial Arts School for the past 8 years. My students ranged from 4 years old to 65 years old. I have taught students of all skill levels. I am specialized in working with special needs and students with behavior issues.  During my journey as head instructor I promoted many students to the level of black belt and beyond. I am very passionate about teaching and sharing my knowledge of self-defense while promoting a happier and healthier lifestyle.

Here is my story

I have been running a martial arts school in Johns Creek, Georgia since 2013 up until March 2020. Unfortunately we had to close last year due to the pandemic. The business was very dear to me as I built the whole thing from the ground up. It was an awesome adventure, and I learned more than I could have ever imagined from some of the best mentors in the industry. Given the circumstances of closing the karate school in 2020 I was forced to find alternative work. I have tried over the last year to find my next thing. I am an entrepreneur at heart so I have had a hard time “looking for a job” over this past year. I was apprehensive given what happened to the school during the pandemic and I didn't want to start a business at the time. After exploring different business ideas, and entertaining alternative career paths I decided I was looking too hard for the answer as to what I'm supposed to be doing moving forward from 2020.

I stepped back and said ok, what are you good at? What do you want to do? What is something you love to do, but doesn’t feel like work? My answers were simple. I am a great fitness instructor. I want to teach. Teaching. All my answers were the same. That's how I knew I was making the right decision. Teaching and fitness is absolutely my passion, and have changed hundreds of lives over the years through my teaching. There have been multiple people over the past year telling me I should do personal training. I kept running away from it. The more I thought about it, I decided that’s a great idea! I said to my brother I don't think I learned 15+ years of martial arts and self-defense to not continue to share that lifesaving knowledge with other people. So I decided I will do just that. I am excited to announce I am bringing this passion, knowledge and workouts to the local area!  My family has lived in Albany, Georgia my whole  life, so I am looking forward to bringing a positive impact to the community!

When I teach my classes you always know you will have a partner to train with and talk to. It is very important to me to help with the mental stress of life by being that person my students can talk to. So don't hesitate! The two things I ask my new students is what do they want out of my program and what personal goals are we working towards. I will hold myself just as responsible for your goals. The reward of being a teacher is seeing your students succeed. I am very eager to hear from you and hear your story. How can my workouts change your story? How can my workouts help your story? How can my workouts fit into your story? How can my workouts help begin your story?

Put in the work and the results will show!!
